A simple plan for a first date
Meeting should give you a chance to talk, with freedom to leave.
Choose an easy first meeting
Suggest a public place and a manageable amount of time. Coffee or a short shared activity can be enough to see how conversation feels in person. Agree on the plan together; avoid treating a first meeting as a promise of intimacy or a private visit.
Make your own arrangements
Plan your transport and how you will get home. Consider telling someone you trust where you are going, and keep access to your phone and belongings. These steps cannot guarantee safety, but they help you retain practical options if the meeting does not feel right.
Check how you feel afterwards
Ask yourself whether you felt listened to and whether your choices were respected. You can decline another date without a lengthy justification. If you both want to continue, choose a next step together rather than assuming the first meeting settled every expectation.
